Welcome to the AFSCME Local 517 Website!

Local 517 represents approximately 600 exempt and non-exempt Washington County, Stillwater Library, and Cities of Stillwater, Oak Park Heights and Forest Lake employees.  The Executive Board is comprised of a president, vice president, treasurer, recording secretary, two chief stewards (one representing exempt and the other non-exempt), three E-Board at large members, three trustees and a membership secretary.  All positions, with the exception of the membership secretary, are elected positions.  Elections are held every March with the trustee positions staggered.

Council 5’s elected Executive Board is recommending a dues increase of $5 a month beginning in 2015. The FIVE FOR THE FIGHT proposal makes sure we can keep battling for our values and jobs. Informational discussions take place in 17 cities during June. Read more >>>

Let Your Talent Grab the Spotlight

This summer’s AFSCME International convention features a new twist: a member talent show. To enter, prepare a 2- to 3-minute performance video, and start raising money for PEOPLE – the fund that helps support elected officials who support workers. Complete rules, pledge forms, and details are available online. Audition videos must be submitted by July 1.

Fighting for All Workers

More than 1,000 Council 5 members and retirees made themselves impossible to ignore during Day on the Hill. During what is typically our biggest event all year, members took our union’s fight for all workers to the Capitol. That included packing a hearing room urging the minimum wage conference committee to raise the wage to $9.50 -- then make sure it goes up every year to keep up with inflation.
